Hua Nian, originally from China, gained her bachelor's degree in journalism. She taught photojournalism in Jinan University, Guangzhou for six years before moving to the United States. She received a Master's degree in art education from Pittsburg State University in Kansas in 1996, and is currently an active artist and art teacher in Normal, Illinois.She is a current member of Artists, Residents of Chicago and Arts Iowa City. Her works have been shown nationally and internationally, and displayed in several Chicago galleries. Major exhibitions include:
