Reservation of CAMIL I is generally restricted to School of Music faculty and staff, as well as students who already have i-Card access to the lab (see Access, below). Individuals or groups wishing to reserve CAMIL I should contact Sandy Horn to make the reservation.
Facility
Fifteen student stations and one teacher station. Computers are Macintosh iMacs with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HD, and OSX Leopard (10.5). Workstations are equipped with USB/Firewire hubs, M-Audio digital audio interfaces; stations 1-5 are additionally equipped with M-Box audio interfaces. Station 15 has an M-Audio MIDI interface connected to the Disklavier. Teacher station has Projection, CD, DVD, AUX, MOTU-828 Digital Interface, Mixing console. The room has 8 Roland 4412A 12" studio monitors plus sub-woofer and supports the following audio formats (teacher station):
- 8 channel discrete
- 7.1 surround sound
- 5.1 surround sound
- Quad
- Stereo
Student stations can route stereo output to room speakers and can connect to the teacher station to play multichannel files.
i-Card Access
Because CAMIL I is an unmonitored lab its door is always locked and access into the room is only possible using the i-Card reader attached to the door. The card reader unlocks the door only for registered i-Card numbers. All Composition/Theory faculty and C/T graduate students are automatically registered for i-Card access. SOM faculty members will be given i-Card access upon request. Undergraduate SOM students, non-C/T graduate students and non-SOM students can petition for i-Card access through faculty sponsored projects.
Petitioning for i-Card access to CAMIL I
Write a brief description of the project and explain why it needs to take place in CAMIL I rather than the CITES monitored CAMIL II lab. Include the name of the faculty member sponsoring the project, your name as it appears on the i-Card as well as the full i-Card ID number. E-mail your petition to the lab director.
Using the i-Card
To open the door, place your i-Card in the slot in the door handle with the top of the card pointing toward the door and the back of the card pointing toward the right. Then slowly swipe your i-Card straight down to the bottom of the slot; when the green light blinks open the door. The i-Card reader automatically logs your i-Card number and time of day you opened the door. Note that the mechanism is sensitive; you may have to swipe the card several times before it unlocks.
